1) What inspired this piece?
I was inspired by the nature photography of Audra M. Blackburn, and I was greatly in the mood to painting butterflies.
2) Why did you give it that title?
One of the best parts about spring is getting to see butterflies again.
3) Did you use a photo reference or model?
I referenced a photograph by Audra M. Blackburn. The original photograph can be viewed here: https://sugaree-33.deviantart.com/art/BUTTERFLIES-ARE-FREE-TO-FLY-386819390
4) Is there a story or message in this piece
It is really interesting to see how my skills have improved. I started this project back in 2014. Three years later, I would consider this far beneath my current skills. Hopefully, three more years from now, my painting skills will continue to show themselves sharper and better!
5) Any other thoughts?
Does anyone know what breed of butterfly this is?
