Another day, more painting done.
I started working on the house in the background again, but I VERY quickly got tired and fed up with it. I don’t have a reference picture for the house, so I now regret not spending more time sketching it out. Still, I got a few things straightened out, but more work still needs to be done on it. And I need to add those pesky windows yet. And a chimney.
Frustrated with the house and background, I decided to just jump to the tree, which technically, I was supposed to paint in almost last after the background details were done. Ah, well. I won’t punish myself. I love painting trees – they are definitely the fun part! xD
For the tree, I first started blotting in dark green color for the undertone/shadow in the leaves:
Next, I added a medium green color for another undertone layer in the leaves:
Then, I added a lighter green for the top layer of leaves:
And last, I painted in a very bright green for sunlight highlights:
I’ll add more details and highlights to the leaves later, but that is the big portion of it completed.
Next, I added some texture and shading to the truck of the tree:
I will add more texture, shading, and details to it later, but for now, it is a very nice start.
And since I hate leaving any paint already out go to waste, I used up the last of the burnt sierra paint color on the midground pathway, giving another base color to work with, which should help it look like there is more sunlight shining down on the scene:
That’s all for Day 3’s work. Much more to be done!
